The authors of the works in this zine, students in Allison Parrish’s Reading and Writing Electronic Text class at NYU ITP (Spring 2024), together voice a collective denial of this binary.
Using techniques including string manipulation, text analysis, hand-made corpora, grammar generation, natural language processing and (yes) language models, these authors demonstrate that creative writing's connection with computation did not reach its apotheosis in whatever hyped-up LLM came out yesterday; but that in fact the relations and affordances between creative writing and computation are infinitely various, contextual, and even expressive.
